Economical meaning

Camel milk has a fresh taste similar to cow milk and is produced on an industrial scale in North African and Arab countries. Machine milking is possible and is z. B. practiced in Kazakhstan or Saudi Arabia. Camel milk is available in large supermarkets in the United Arab Emirates and Oman . Ice cream is also made from camel's milk.

Milking two to three times a day achieves a daily volume of 1.5 to 3 liters, whereas on professional dairy farms in Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan an average of 15 liters. Milking camels is much more difficult than, for example, cows, so the camel foals first suckle milk before the machine milking begins. The foals stand next to them during the entire milking process and finally suckle the remaining milk.

Health importance

Camels usually live much healthier than industrially raised dairy cows on pastures and not in factory farming. The feeding conditions are also better, which has a positive effect on the milk quality. Camels do not give milk if they are not comfortable.

In contrast to cow's milk, milk contains three times the amount of vitamin C, but no β-lactoglobulin . The protein is present in cow's milk and is responsible for the symptoms of those who are allergic to milk. Camel milk also contains lanolin and elastin , which have a positive effect on the skin, which is why the milk is also added to soaps and creams.

Camel milk is said to relieve itching and redness in atopic dermatitis patients, and also help with tuberculosis through better fat tolerance.
