The Kamvounia Mountains ( Greek Καμβούνια Όρη Kamvóunia Óri ( n. Pl. )) In northern Greece rise up to 1615 m above sea level . They are on the border between Thessaly and Western Macedonia . Portions of the mountains belong to the regional districts Larisa , Kozani and Grevena . Access to the mountain is mainly via Deskati and Paliouria . The Kamvounia adjoin Mount Olympus in the east, the Pieria Mountains in the northeast , the Chasia in the west - and the Antichasia Mountains in the south . The Aliakmonas reservoir also borders in the north . The highest peaks are Vounasa (Βουνάσα, 1615 m) and Mavrolithara (Μαυρολίθαρα, 1363 m) a small plateau in the center of the mountain is dominated by the Tretimos (Τρέτιμος, 1092 m), from which one has a good view of the surrounding peaks.

Flora and fauna

The mountain massif is pretty bare, only on the north side the typical tree species such as holm oak , pine and various other trees have survived. The animal world is composed accordingly. Most species are adapted to life in steppe-like areas. You can also find wolves , as well as weasels, ferrets, badgers and foxes. When it comes to bird species, the short-toed eagle and hoopoe among others are particularly worth mentioning.
