The Canary Forest Board Game ( Pararge xiphioides ) is a butterfly (day butterfly ) from the family of the noble butterfly (Nymphalidae).
features
The moths reach a wingspan of 40 to 50 millimeters. They vary a lot in drawing and coloring. The upper side is brownish-reddish with yellowish to orange-red spots and black, white pithed eye spots. On the forewings, near the wing tips, there is an eye spot , near which several yellow spots are lined up parallel to the outer edge of the wing. The hind wings have three to four eye spots next to each other. The outer edges of the fore and hind wings are thin and whitish in color. The outer edge of the front wing is not indented in contrast to the rear wings. The underside of the forewings is brownish with numerous whitish, yellowish and black spots and has an ophthalmic spot in the same place as on the upper side. However, it is white on the underside. The basic color of the undersides of the hind wings is ocher and lightly marbled brown, e.g. T. also with serrated lines roughly parallel to the outer edge. The eye spots are here designed as dark brown, very faded and lightly pithed spots.

The Canary Forest Board Game differs from the Central European Forest Board Game by the smaller eye spot in the apex of the forewings and by the non-indented outer edges of the forewings.
Geographical distribution and habitat
The Canary Islands forest board game occurs only on the Canary Islands La Gomera , La Palma , Tenerife and Gran Canaria . It is one of the most common butterflies in the Canaries. The animals live from around sea level to 2,000 meters above sea level in wooded areas as well as in cultivated land and in gardens.
Way of life
The kind forms several generations per year; the moths can therefore be found around the year. The caterpillars feed on various plants, but mainly on wood twinkles ( Brachypodium sylvaticum ), red ostrich grass ( Agrostis capillaris ), interrupted sedge ( Carex divulsa ) and Forster's grove ( Luzula forsteri ).
