The Kangchenjunga South Summit ( English Kanchenjunga South ) is an 8476 m high secondary summit of the Kangchenjunga , the third highest mountain in the world at 8586 m in the Himalayas .
The summit is on the Nepalese - Indian border. A mountain ridge leads north over the central peak to the main peak of the Kangchenjunga. To the east, a mountain ridge branches off to Zemu Kang ( 7730 m ). To the south, the ridge continues over Hogsback Peak ( 7379 m ) and Talung ( 7349 m ) to Kabru .
The first ascent of the summit took place in 1978 - 23 years after the first successful ascent to the main summit - by the Poles Eugeniusz Chrobak and Wojciech Wróż. In 1989 the mountain was climbed for the first time without bottled oxygen.
