The Talung is a peak in the Himalayas on the border between the Nepalese administrative zone of Mechi and Sikkim in India .
The Talung is 5.57 km south-southwest of the eight-thousander Kangchenjunga . The mountain lies on a mountain ridge running in north-south direction. 2.52 km further south-southwest rises the 7395 m Kabru III . The notch height to this is only 409 m, so that the Talung is considered a secondary peak of Kabru III. The Yalung Glacier flows on the western flank of the Talung and the Talung Glacier on the eastern flank .
Ascent history
The Talung was first climbed by a German expedition. Franz Lindner , Tensing Nindra , Richard Hechtel and Dieter Mardicke reached the summit on May 18, 1964 via the western flank and the southern saddle.
In 1991 the Slovenian climbers Marko Prezelj and Andrej Stremfelj made the second ascent of the Talung.
Czech climbers Marek Holeček and Zdeněk Hrubý climbed the north face of the Talung (2500 m, M6 +, WI6) in alpine style and reached the summit on May 28, 2013. For this achievement, the two of them were awarded the Piolet d'Or - Zdeněk Hrubý posthumously, as he died on Gasherbrum I in autumn 2013 .
