The Taplejung district ( Nepali ताप्लेजुङ जिल्ला ) is one of 77 districts in Nepal and has belonged to Province No. 1 since the 2015 constitution .

Its main town is the city of the same name, Taplejung .

geography

The 3646 km² district is the northeastern Nepalese district and is located directly on the Indian and Chinese borders in the Himalayas .

Its district neighbors are Sankhuwasabha in the west , Terhathum and Panchthar in the south . In the east, Taplejung is bordered by the Indian state of Sikkim and in the north by the Tibet Autonomous Region .

The highest point of the district is the 8,586  m high Kangchenjunga , the third highest mountain on earth.

The average temperature is 11.3 ° C, the minimum temperature 0 ° C and the maximum temperature 30 ° C. The average rainfall is 1440 mm per year.

population

According to the 2001 census, the district had 134,698 inhabitants and the population density was 36.9 people / km². The following ethnic groups live in the district: Limbo, Tibetans, Sherpas , Rai, Gurung, Magar, Newar, Tamangs, Sunuwar.
