The Mugu District ( Nepali मुगु जिल्ला Mugu Jilla ) is one of 77 districts in Nepal and has been part of the Constitution of 2015 the province Karnali .

history

Until 2015, the district was part of the Karnali Administrative Zone .

geography

Mugu is one of the most remote districts in the country. It is also one of the ten poorest and most underdeveloped districts, with a Human Development Index of less than 0.4.

In Mugu lies the largest lake in Nepal, the 8 km² Rara lake at an altitude of 2900  m .

Residents

Mugu had 55,286 inhabitants at the 2011 census.

Administrative division

The only city ( municipality ) of the district is Chhayanath Rara .
