The Dadeldhura District ( Nepali डडेलधुरा जिल्ला Dadeldhura Jillā ) is one of 77 districts in Nepal and has belonged to the Sudurpashchim Province since the 2015 constitution .

history

Until 2015, Dadeldhura was part of the Mahakali administrative zone .

geography

The district is located in the west of Nepal. The course of the Mahakali river separates the district in the west from the neighboring Indian state of Uttarakhand .

Dadeldhura lies at an altitude of 333 m to 2639 m above sea level, so it extends from the Terai to the hilly pre-Himalayan region. Due to the different altitude, Dadeldhura is located in different climatic zones. The average maximum temperature is 32 ºC while the average minimum temperature is only 3.6 ºC. The annual average rainfall is around 1346.6 mm.

The district is well connected to the road network of Nepal. Dadeldhura thus serves as access to various hilly areas or districts in the region such as. B. Achham , Doti , Baitadi , Bajura .

Agriculture, including livestock and poultry, manufacturing, service industries such as hotels and tourist lodges are the main industries in the district. The district has rich forest resources, around 78% of the area is covered with forest, and besides forestry it also has potential for the collection and processing of herbs.

Due to favorable climatic conditions and improved cultivation methods, the district has a high potential for growing high-quality vegetables, even in the off-season, and other agricultural products such as rice, wheat and corn.

Residents

At the 2001 census it had 126,162 inhabitants; In 2011 there were 142,094.

Agriculture is the main source of income for 91% of households.

Women suffer from gender-based discrimination in education, nutrition, social and cultural norms. Discrimination against women also occurs in the form of the practice called Chhaupadi of banishing women to a hut during their menstruation.

Caste discrimination is still widespread in the district. A number of disadvantaged groups live in the district such as the former haliyas ( slaves living in debt ).
