The Darchula district ( Nepali दार्चुला जिल्ला Dārchulā Jillā ) is one of 77 districts in Nepal and has belonged to the Sudurpashchim Province since the 2015 constitution .

The administrative seat is Mahakali .

history

Until 2015, Darchula was part of the Mahakali administrative zone .

geography

In the west, the Mahakali river divides the district from the neighboring Indian state of Uttarakhand , in the headwaters lies the disputed Kalapani area . In the wake of the border disputes, the Nepalese government published a map in May 2020 showing the district as far as Limpiyadhura in the west. The area is also claimed by India.
