Mahakali ( Nepali महाकाली ) is a city ( municipality ) in the far west of Nepal in the Darchula district .

history

The city was created in 2014 under the name Api by merging the Village Development Committees (VDC) Brahmadev , Chapari , Dhap , Kante and Khalanga .

In the course of the restructuring of the local level and the creation of the Gaunpalikas (rural communities) by amalgamating and abolishing the Village Development Committees on March 10, 2017, the VDC Dattu was also incorporated and three wards were handed over to neighboring communities. In addition, the name of the city was changed to Mahakali .

geography

Mahakali is located on the left bank of the Mahakali River on the border with India . It houses the administrative headquarters of the district in the former VDC Khalanga . When it was founded, the urban area covered 131.4 km². After the changes made in 2017, the area grew to 135.11 km².

Residents

At the 2011 census, the VDCs, from which the city of Api emerged, had 20,797 inhabitants (10,023 of them male) in 4,419 households. According to the changes made in 2017, the population is 21,231.
