The district of Rukum West ( Nepali पश्चिमी रुकुम ) is one of 77 districts in Nepal and was created with the 2015 constitution . It is part of the Karnali Province .

history

The district was created by dividing the Rukum district into the newly created provinces of Gandaki (formerly No. 6) and No. 5 by the constitution of 2015 . Experts from the federal government determined that the name of the district can only be changed by changing the constitution of Nepal with a two-thirds majority, since the name of the new district was set out in Appendix 4 of the constitution. According to a statement by the Chief Minister of Karnali Province Mahendra Bahadur Shahi in May 2018, the name has met with the acceptance of the population, so that a change of the name does not seem necessary.

The district was actually able to work and provided with its own administration two years after its creation in 2017 in the course of the elections for local representatives. Until then, the two new districts were administered jointly by the previous district administration of the previous district.
