The district of Kapilbastu (also Kapilvastu ; Nepali कपिलवस्तु जिल्ला Kapilbastu Jillā ) is one of 77 districts in Nepal .

The Kapilbastu District is part of the Lumbini Administrative Zone in the West Development Region . In 2001 the district had a population of 481,976; In 2011 there were 571,936. The administrative seat is the city of Kapilavastu in the Terai .

Historically, the district was part of the Shakya kingdom in northern India ; According to tradition, in the 6th century BC came from this family. BC Siddharta Gautama , the later Buddha .
