The district of Surkhet ( Nepali सुर्खेत जिल्ला ) is one of 77 districts in Nepal and has belonged to the Karnali province since the constitution of 2015 .
geography
It is located about 370 km west of Kathmandu .
A characteristic part of the landscape of the district is the valley of Surkhet with a diameter of 6 to 9 km at an altitude of approx. 650 m (above sea level), on the northern edge of which is the city of Birendranagar . From the middle of the cauldron protrudes a small, wooded and approx. 70 m high hill on which the Buddhist monastery ruins of Kankrebihar are located.

In the 2001 census it had 288,527 inhabitants; in 2011 there were 350,804.
