The Rara Lake , ( Nepali राराताल raratal ) in the west of Nepal is the largest lake in the country. At an altitude of 2900  m, it covers about 9.8 km² with a shoreline of 9 km and a maximum depth of 167 m.

The lake in the Mugu district of the Karnali province has a slightly oval shape and is entirely located in the Lake Rara National Park about 300 km northwest of the state capital Kathmandu . The oligotrophic water has more than 30 tributaries , the only outflow is the Khater Khola on the west side.

Apart from a lodge area of ​​the national park administration on the north-west bank ( 29 ° 32 ′  N , 82 ° 5 ′  E ) there are no settlements and there are no roads.
