Andrej Štremfelj (* 1956 ) is a Slovenian mountaineer who has achieved several spectacular first ascents . In 2018 he was honored with the Piolet d'Or Lifetime Achievement Award .

Štremfelj started climbing the mountains of Slovenia at the age of 16 . In May 1979, he ascended with Jernej Zaplotnik the Mount Everest for the first time on its northwest ridge, the "most difficult of 11 routes to the summit." With his wife Marija (first Slovene women ascent of Mt. Everest) he was on the 7th of October 1990 a second time on Mount Everest, this time via the classic southern route. They were the first married couple on the highest peak on earth.

Further ascents were Broad Peak and immediately afterwards Gasherbrum II (the latter in alpine style ), Lhotse , Pik Kommunismus , Dhaulagiri (first ascent on the east side), Shishapangma (first ascent on the south side), Kangchenjunga (south face ; for this he received the Piolet d'Or in 1991 ), Melungtse (first ascent, 1992), Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang .
