Rabbit pasteurellose

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kaninchenpasteurellose is a by Pasteurella multocida caused bacterial infection in rabbits . The term covers all rabbits with Pasteurellosis that cannot be assigned to the contagious rabbit cold. The clinical appearance is very variable depending on the organ system affected. Treatment is carried out with antibiotics; in larger herds, herd-specific vaccines can also be used.

clinic

P. multocida is also found in healthy rabbits. The rabbits can become infected through contact with other sick animals. In addition to a weak immune system in the animals, keeping the animals too close or making other mistakes can promote infection. Pasteurellosis can express itself in many ways.

The peracute form ( hemorrhagic septicemia of the rabbit ) is characterized by septicemia . Sick animals usually die without any significant symptoms.

Pasteurellosis occurs more frequently in the form of specific organ diseases. Thus, conjunctivitis , inflammation of the middle eye skin , the middle ear , the lungs and the vagina and testes occur. Clinically, these diseases manifest themselves with fever and a corresponding serous to purulent discharge.

treatment

The rabbit pasteurellosis is treated with antibiotics after a previous antibiogram . As a rule, chloramphenicol , enrofloxacin , marbofloxacin and tetracycline are effective .

If Pasteurellosis occurs more frequently in larger herds and production chains, it is advisable to manufacture a herd-specific vaccine.
