Kanker ( Hindi : कांकेर रियासत) was a princely state of British India in what is now the state of Chhattisgarh . Its capital was the place Kanker .
The principality existed since the early Middle Ages. The Rajputs - Dynasty of Chandra ruled from 1385 and made about 1,425 Kanker capital. The principality was occupied by the Marathas from 1809–18 and a British protectorate from 1818–1947 . Raja Narhar Dev (1853-1903) was promoted to Maharaja . In 1901, Kanker had an area of 3706 km² and 104,000 inhabitants.
The Maharaja joined the Eastern States Union in August 1947 . On January 1, 1948, this union was dissolved and Kanker was incorporated into Madhya Pradesh and thus India . On November 1, 1956, all princely states were dissolved. Since November 1, 2000, the area has belonged to the newly formed state of Chhattisgarh.
