The Utenet region

Utenet or Wadan / Uatan was the ancient Egyptian name of a region in Punt .

background

The Egyptians called this area the land of God . In Egyptian mythology it was also the district of the eye of Re , also Uatan or Wadan means in ancient Egyptian as well as in somali (also in today's) country, place in which the deities Min , Re and Chepri also stayed and in their appearance as baboons have been described:

“Praise be to you Ra, you with great power, exulting baboon, you from Utenet / Uatan. Chepri, you with the right figure, you are the duat baboon . "

- Liturgical songs

The country Utenet (the t in the end is usually not pronounced) or in Somali Wadan was also the hometown of various baboon deities. In a part of Utenet / Wadan, the Kenmeti baboons lived together with the divine Beneti baboons . Utenet was also considered the east country of sunrise . The baboons took over the tasks of Chepri, Min, and Re in this context. In other ancient Egyptian texts, Utenet was therefore also referred to as the country of origin of the sun .
