Kantharos (sculptor)
Kantharos ( ancient Greek Κάνθαρος ), son of Alexis, was a Greek sculptor who worked in the first half of the 3rd century BC. Was active.
Kantharos came from Sikyon and worked in Olympia and Thebes . Pliny lists it in his Naturalis historia , but gives no further information about it. After Pausanias he was a pupil of Eutychides . For Olympia he created two victorious statues for the boys' wrestling , on which the Olympians Kratinos von Aigeira (winner of the 127th Games in 272 BC) and Alexinikos von Elis(Winner of the 128th Games in 268 BC). His work is attested in inscriptions from Thebes, his signature was found on a marble base on which the statue of Thoinias was. The statue of Thoinias was donated by his parents, so that this should also have been a representation of a boy.
