The Canoe Sport Association Cologne (KSG) is a non-profit canoe club in Cologne . In addition to general youth work , the KSG maintains a racing team in canoeing whitewater sports .

development

The KSG was founded on November 4, 1977 as a student sports community of the comprehensive school in Cologne's Höhenhaus district with the aim of introducing children and young people to canoeing . Initially, the KSG was located at the Deutzer Hafen , later at the VKC Tennis Club Cologne in the Cologne district of Poll . After a lot of personal work, KSG was able to inaugurate its own boathouse on August 30, 2008 on a plot of land on the Südbrücke in Poll.

Sporty

Since 1980 regular athletes take the KSG in competitions in the rough waters of whitewater racing part. In the following years, the KSG became known for strong young paddlers in the school and youth classes. A total of 14 titles as German champion , 18 silver medals and 27 bronze medals could be won here. The results lists have been put on the Internet by the German Canoe Association for several years . The later five-time world champion Markus Gickler began his sporting career at KSG.

During the construction of the boathouse, the sporting development stalled, so that after its completion the racing team had to be rebuilt. Since 2010, in addition to national successes at the German championships, international successes have also been achieved. This development is mainly due to the intensive youth work, which the association has made its main task.
