The Kanuti River is a 282 km long left tributary of the Koyukuk River in the interior of Alaska between the southern flank of the Brooks Range and the Yukon River .

The Kanuti River flows westward and joins the Koyukuk River southwest of Allakaket .

Most of the course and the catchment area is in the Kanuti National Wildlife Refuge .

The origin of the name goes back to the name of the Koyukon for the river, which probably meant Old Man's River ('river of the old man'). The name was first documented in 1885 and initially spelled "Konootena". Between 1898 and 1913, prospectors also used the name Old Man River .
