Pulpit (Izon)

Pulpit in Izon

The pulpit in the church of St-Martin in Izon , a French commune in the Gironde department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was created in the 17th century. The baroque pulpit made of stone was added to the list of listed objects ( Base Palissy ) in France as Monument historique in 2002.

The pulpit stands on a pedestal in the shape of an angel, reminiscent of atlases . Four walnut reliefs are attached to the pulpit, surrounded by tendrils and depicting scenes from the life of Jesus, which were painted over with white paint until the restoration in 2000.

The stone staircase is decorated with plant reliefs.
