The Cape Lyttelton is a chapter on the Shackleton Coast of the Antarctic Ross Dependency . On the western edge of the Ross Ice Shelf , it forms the southern boundary of Shackleton Inlet .
It was discovered in December 1902 as part of the Discovery Expedition (1901–1904) by the three-man southern group under the direction of British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott , who named it after the New Zealand port of Lyttelton , where the expedition had been generously helped.
