Johann Fabian Wilhelm von Schätzel (born April 20, 1739 in Rakowen ( Johannisburg district ), † April 28, 1803 in Frankfurt an der Oder ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His father was Johann Gottfried von Schätzel (* 1706), heir to Rakowen.

In the work History of the war that has been waged in Germany and its neighboring countries since 1756 , a Major Fabian Wilhelm von Schätzel (* 1709) from Garrison Regiment No. 1 is named.

Military career

Schätzel came to Berlin on July 6, 1756 and was trained in the local cadet house . On May 13, 1757 he was employed as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von der Goltz" . He took part in the ongoing Seven Years' War and fought in the Battle of Roßbach . He was badly wounded in the battle of Kay . He was also at the Siege of Prague and the Battle of Landeshut . During that time he became ensign on January 13, 1759 and second lieutenant on September 28, 1759 .

After the war, Schätzel was promoted to staff captain until August 3, 1777 . As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . After this war he became captain and company commander on December 5, 1778 . On November 28, 1786, he was promoted to major and on June 21, 1786 was appointed battalion commander . On January 29, 1794 he was now lieutenant colonel . Schätzel took part in the suppression of the Kościuszko uprising in 1794/1795. He was involved in the siege of Warsaw and the battle at Kamion. For Kamion he received the order Pour le Mérite on January 23, 1795 . Then on April 27, 1795 he was appointed regimental commander. On January 9, 1796 he was colonel and on November 2, 1799 commander of the III. Battalion of the regiment (musketeers). But already on November 16, 1799 he received his resignation , plus the character of major general with a pension of 800 thalers. On November 23, 1799, he was also given permission to continue wearing his regiment's uniform.

family

He married Charlotte Friderike Maria von Flanß on April 27, 1781 in Frankfurt an der Oder (* May 3, 1752, † June 25, 1812). She was the only daughter of Major General Kurt Friedrich von Flanß . The couple had the following children:
