The Chapel of the Holy Cross in Bessin, a district of the municipality of Rambin on Rügen , is a Gothic eight-sided brick building .

The church was donated in 1482 by Matthias Darne , a Stralsund mayor .

It stands on a sand-lime brick base and has a roof covering with “monk / nun tiles”, which is separated from the foundation walls by a “German ribbon”. Externally, the chapel still looks the same as when it was built.

In the interior of the chapel there is a Baroque pulpit altar from 1742/43, box stalls from the 18th century and a holy water font from the Middle Ages. The Association of Friends of the “Chapel of the Holy Cross” is committed to maintaining the chapel.

The municipality of Rambin is responsible for the outer shell, while the support association organizes and finances the preservation and restoration of the interior including the furnishings. The association organizes regular cultural events in the small chapel. The harvest festival is one of the highlights of the year, for which numerous people from Rügan and Stralsund come to Bessin.

1482: Foundation of the small octagonal chapel "To the Holy Cross" by the Mayor of Stralsund, Matthias Darne
17th century: addition of the bell bay with a bell from the 15th century. The exterior of the chapel has remained unchanged since it was built; inside there is a flat wooden ceiling with medieval paintings. Several bishop's crosses adorn the walls.
18th century: the chapel is furnished with box stalls and two patronage chairs ; Extension of the pulpit altar towards the front in wood
1926/27: Fundamental repairs, renewal of the figure attributes, the leaf hangers and the painting on the top
1982: The attic was cleaned and secured by the citizens of Bessin
1983/85: Restoration of the ceiling painting and renovation of the belfry
1995/96: Work on the roof covering - repairs to the roof structure
February 1998: Foundation of the association “Kapelle zum Heiligen Kreuz Bessin e. V. ”, in order to gradually restore and maintain the chapel through donations. Furthermore, a church, but also non-profit use should be ensured.
