Kapfelberg is a district of the city of Kelheim in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim .
location
The parish village is located on a mountain cone north of the Danube about six kilometers east of Kelheim and has about 1,400 inhabitants (2002).
history
The oldest evidence of a prehistoric settlement in the Kapfelberg area are flint appliances. In the area around Kapfelberg people settled 3000 to 4000 years ago who were probably hunting and fishing.
The land around Kapfelberg in old Bavaria belonged in part to the barons of Laaber in the high Middle Ages, and the Regensburg Cathedral Chapter also owned a manufacture in Lindach.
The history of the town of Kapfelberg is inextricably linked with the quarrying of stones, which began at least during Roman times. From the "Roman Quarry" both lime and green sandstone house stones were extracted from at least the 1st or 2nd century AD until 1831. It was not until 1927 that the quarry was finally stopped. The "Kapfelberger Stein" used to go by water not only to Regensburg to build the Roman camp Castra Regina, but also to build the stone bridge in the period from 1135 to 1146, the Regensburg Cathedral and Passau and to Vienna to build St. Stephen's Cathedral .
Kapfelberg remained an independent political municipality until 1977 and was incorporated into the city of Kelheim as of January 1, 1978.
