Captain's House (Flensburg-Fruerlund)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The captain's house was built in the 19th century and is one of the cultural monuments of Flensburg - Fruerlund today .

background

Most of the buildings in Ballastbrücke street near Flensburg harbor were erected in the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. The captain's house at Ballastbrücke 16 was apparently also built in the 19th century. It is not the only building in Flensburg that is called the Captain's House today, for example the Sonwik Captain's House still exists . Five hundred meters further south is the captains' quarter in the Juergensby district , which was named because a number of captains used to live there .

The captain's house on the ballast bridge was built from bricks and probably only later increased to the current two floors. The roof has the shape of an eaves gable roof . The strong plaster structure of the building probably dates from around 1900. The neighboring building Ballastbrücke 15 to the north, a rental apartment building, was also built during this time. There is no public information about the neighboring building to the south, it is not one of the street's cultural monuments. The captain's house was placed under monument protection around 2017 for historical and urban planning reasons .
