The Sacred Heart Church in Huben

The Herz-Jesu-Kirche is a chaplain church of the parish Matrei in Osttirol in the locality Huben (municipality Matrei in Osttirol) . The church was consecrated in 1928 to the patronage of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and is located at the junction of Defereggentalstrasse  (L25) from Felbertauernstrasse .

history

Plans to build a church in Huben go back to the middle of the 18th century. When the construction of a new church was planned in 1756, however, the choice ultimately fell on building a church in Hopfgarten in Defereggen . In the last quarter of the 19th century a chapel was built in Huben, but it was destroyed by fire. New building plans failed after 1910 due to lack of funds, another new building plan by master builder Franz Mair from Nikolsdorf was also not implemented. Finally, Dean Jakob Mair founded a church building committee in 1924, whereupon the future Matreier pastor Josef Schröckenhuber had a provisional chapel built. After Josef Unterlechner had donated a free building site, the architects were invitedClemens Holzmeister , Lois Welzenbacher and Bernardi invited them to submit plans for the new building of the church. Welzenbacher's design was finally carried out under the direction of master builder Otto Thönig, with the foundation stone being laid on May 6, 1925. The building was completed in four construction phases by 1929, the consecration took place on October 14, 1928 by Archbishop Sigismund Waitz . In 1996 the church was renovated, in 2002/03 the sacristy was rebuilt and redesigned, with a second room in the attic being opened up.

Building

The church consists of a wide, largely undivided long building with a gable roof and a retracted round choir as well as a church tower built on the north side with arched sound windows and onion dome. The gable walls of the nave were curved on the east and west side, with the top of the gable being crowned with a ball and a cross. The onion dome of the tower also has a sphere and cross, but also a weather valve. Inside, the Herz-Jesu-Kirche has a wide hall with a barrel vault, on the west side of the entrance there is a continuous gallery . The chancel is formed by a strongly drawn-in circular choir.

Furnishing

Herz-Jesu-Kirche (Huben) Altar.jpg

The high altar was brought from Fulmes to Huben in 1932 and replaced in 1996 by an altar from Innsbruck's Johanneskirche. The altar was created in 1878 by the Trenkwalder brothers using older parts. It is made of wood with marble parts and gold-plated ornamental parts. Pilaster-structured fields rise above the base zone with the cafeteria, above which the flanking reredos integrate the tabernacle with a column-bounded arched niche. The group of figures contained here represents the crucifixion with Mary and John. Above the tabernacle there is a structure with a statue of the Sacred Heart in a halo, which is flanked by two kneeling angels. Above the simple side altars are wall paintings by Carl Rieder with a crescent moon Madonna (left) and a representation of St. Theresa of the Cross , who is surrounded by two floating angels and a wreath of flowers (right).

Other pieces of equipment in the church include a pulpit from around 1800 or the early 19th century, the wooden stalls created in 1928/29 and a pneumatic cone organ with eleven stops installed by H. Stadelmann from Merano in 1937 . A crucifix from around the middle of the 18th century is attributed to Johann Paterer .
