Kaputt is the ninth studio album by the Canadian indie pop band Destroyer . It was released on January 25, 2011 by Merge Records . It leakte but already towards the end of 2010. The third side of the vinyl edition of the album includes several bonus tracks from Ted Bois who works occasionally with Destroyer.

On June 16, 2011, Kaputt was one of 40 nominations for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize. On July 6th, the album was already on the shortlist of the award with only nine other albums.

reception

The album received mostly positive reviews. Pitchfork Media gave the album 8.8 out of 10 points and the attribute "Best New Music", while Rolling Stone gave the album 3.5 out of 5 stars.

On February 7th, 2011 Sebastian Handke wrote on Zeit Online :

“The loneliness that speaks from this music is not ironic and decadent as it used to be, but gentle, ambiguous, animated by a peculiarly clouded passion. It is an appropriation of glam that was only possible in 2011: with all the influences from new folk and indie rock. [...]

One thing, however, Bejar and his record company Merge Records have to ask themselves: Why now? There won't be a better summer record this year. "
