The Karabakh Highlands ( Azerbaijani Qarabağ yaylası ; Armenian Ղարաբաղի բարձրավանդակ ; Russian Карабахское нагорье ) is located in the far east of the Armenian Highlands .
The Karabakh Highlands extend between the Karabakh Mountains in the east and the Sangesurkamm and the Eastern Sevan Mountains in the west. The river valleys of Vorotan and Tərtər in the west and Hakari in the east separate the Karabakh highlands from the adjacent mountains. The highest point is the Dəlidağ with a height of 3616 m . Several cones of extinct volcanoes protrude from the plateau. The highest of these volcanoes is Qızılboğaz , which is 3594 m high on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border . The so-called petroglyphs of Ughtasar were discovered near this volcano .
