Karabass

The Karaganda brazier ( Russian Карагандинский угольный бассейн ; short form Карабас , Karabass ) is about 4,000 square kilometers large in area Qaraghandy located coal basin Kazakhstan .

The main cities are the administrative center of the region, Karaganda (former Karaganda), Temirtau , shakhtinsk , Abai and Saran .

history

The first coal deposits were discovered in 1833, but it wasn't until the establishment of the Kazakhstan company in 1929 that the industry began to develop.

Coal mining

The hard coal of the Karabass area is extracted in several mines , partly in open pit and partly in civil engineering . The seam thicknesses range from 0.2 to 18 m.
