Shakhtinsk ( Kazakh / Russian Шахтинск ) is an industrial city in the Karagandy region , Kazakhstan with 37,339 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). It is located about 50 kilometers southwest of Karaganda on the banks of Nurazuflusses Tentek . The urban area includes three nearby settlements: Shachan , Nowodolinskii and Dolinka .

In 1989 the city had 56001 inhabitants in the urban area. However, only about 34,900 live in the city of Shakhtinsk. The remaining 20,000 or so are distributed among the three above. Settlements. About 63% of them are Russian and only 11% Kazakhs , as well as a large number of other nationalities.

history

The city was founded in 1961. Before that there was a workers' settlement called Tentek on the area, which was built in 1955.

economy

Like most of the towns in the Karaganda area , mining is the main industry in Shakhtinsk. In four coal mines ( Kasachstanskaja , Schachtinskaja , Molodeschnaja and Lenin ), to the Mittal Steel Company belong, is coal promoted.

There is a children's and youth sports school and a football stadium in the city.
