Saran ( Kazakh Саран , Russian Сарань Saran ) is a city in central Kazakhstan with 42,950 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020), in the Karagandy region and is located 25 km southwest of the regional capital Karagandy .
history
The city was founded on December 20, 1954, it was formerly part of the city of Karagandy. Since 1961, former independent places belong to the urban area: Malaja Saran, Dubovka, Bajtam, Sokur, Saran-Ugolnaja and Aqtas .

economy
The city of Saran, like most of the cities around Karagandy, is characterized by mining. In numerous wells ( underground mining ) and surface mining is coal promoted.
The Kazakh sports company Karat has its headquarters in Saran.
