Karazhal ( Kazakh Қаражал , Russian Каражал Karaschal ), also Qarajal, is a city in Kazakhstan with 7,935 inhabitants (at January 1, 2020). It is located in the Karagandy area, 350 km southwest of the regional capital .

population

18,586 people live in the urban district of Qaraschal, 7,935 of them in the city itself, 10,651 people in the subordinate settlement of Schairem and around 200 in the nearby settlement of Schalginskii.

history

Qaraschal was founded in 1959. On January 8, 1963, the town was granted city rights.

economy

The economy is dominated by mining operations . In the immediate vicinity there are large deposits of zinc (30% of the occurrence in Kazakhstan), lead (50%) and barite (70%).
