Qonyrat ( Kazakh Қонырат ; Russian Конырат , older Коунрад ) is a settlement in the region Karaganda in Kazakhstan . The place with 3103 inhabitants is administratively subordinate to the city of Balqasch .

Copper is mined for Balkhaschzwetmet in the vicinity . In Qonyrat, the later full member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) Dinmuhamed Kunajew worked as an engineer in a mining company.
