The Karadere (also Kara Dere ; Turkish for "black brook") is a tributary of the Black Sea in the provinces of Gümüşhane and Trabzon in northeastern Turkey . The river was called Hyssos (Latinized Hyssus ) in ancient times .

The Karadere has its source in the Eastern Pontic Mountains in the Gümüşhane province. The river flows mainly in a northerly direction through the mountains. After a few kilometers it crosses the provincial border to Trabzon. It flows through the district of Araklı and finally flows into the Black Sea near the coastal town of Araklı. The Karadere has a length of approx. 70 km.
