The Zr. Ms. Karel Doorman (A 833) is a multi-purpose supply ship of the Dutch Navy . In February 2016 it was agreed to use this ship together with the German Navy .
tasks
The Karel Doorman replaces the two supply ships Zuiderkruis and Amsterdam . Her tasks include:
- Sea supply of warships
- Sea transport, including amphibious handling of personnel and material outside of port facilities
- Logistic support for military operations on land
The construction costs amounted to around 408 million euros.
commitment
Although it was still being tested, the Karel Doorman was sent to West Africa in November 2014 to provide logistical support in combating the Ebola epidemic there. After commissioning in spring 2015, the ship was tested for a few more months and finally handed over to the Royal Navy on September 24, 2015 by the procurement authority. In March 2016, the first exercises were carried out with the naval battalion of the German Navy.
