Karen Borlaug Phillips

Karen Borlaug Phillips (born October 1, 1956 in Long Beach , California ) is an American government official and manager.

Life

Karen Borlaug Phillips studied at the Catholic University of Puerto Rico from 1973 to 1974 . She then moved to the University of North Dakota , where she completed her Bachelor of Arts in French and Spanish and her Bachelor of Science in Economics with summa cum laude in 1977 . She then worked as a research assistant at George Washington University until 1980 . In addition, she worked in the United States Department of Transportation from July 1977 as a research fellow and from October 1978 as an economist in the field of industrial policy.

In June 1986, she moved to the US Senate staff . She was first on the advisory board of the majority Republican leaders in the Committee on Economics, Science and Transport , from December 1985 as tax adviser on the finance committee and from January 1987 as senior economics advisor to the Republicans on the finance committee.

In February 1988 she was nominated by President Ronald Reagan for the vacant seat of Malcolm MB Sterrett on the Interstate Commerce Commission . She took office on August 11, 1988. 1991 was confirmed for a further term until December 31, 1996. On November 11, 1994 Phillips resigned from their post. Your seat has not been reoccupied. She became vice president of the Association of American Railroads , the lobbying organization for the major American railroads . Here she was responsible for the area, politics, legislation, communication. She stayed in this position until November 1998, after which she served as President of her business consultancy and lobbying firm, Policy & Advocacy Associates.

In 2000 she moved to Canadian National Railways and took a board post. Karen Phillips was most recently responsible for public and government affairs , in particular for lobbying the railways in the United States and Canada. In 2014 she ended this activity and has since been self-employed as a business consultant and lobbyist again.

Karen Borlaug Phillips is married to Laurence Theodore Phillips and has two children.
