Karen Kay Sharpe (born July 20, 1934 in San Antonio , Texas ) is an American actress . She was the third wife of the film director Stanley Kramer and has been his estate administrator since his death in 2001.

Life

Karen Sharpe was born to Indiana sales manager Howard Sharpe and his wife Dorothy. She took dance lessons as a child and moved to California after graduating from school to begin a career as a film actress. Sharpe took lessons from the ballet dancer and choreographer Adolph Bolm.

After a few roles in local theaters, Karen Sharpe was discovered by a talent agent at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio , but not signed. She also auditioned for Columbia Pictures and Universal Studios while making her living as a model and actress in commercials. She finally gained fame in 1952 through photos of her that were published in the US military magazine Army Bound .

In the same year the then eighteen-year-old Sharpe finally got a small role in the film noir The Sniper produced by Columbia Pictures . Her first leading role also followed in 1952 in the adventure film Bomba and the jungle girl . In the following years she took on the leading female role in several film noirs and westerns, as well as supporting roles in large productions such as Geknechtet and Es wird wieder Tag . In the 1964 comedy The Booby On Service , Sharpe was seen as a film partner of Jerry Lewis . In addition to her film career, she starred in numerous television series. From 1959 to 1960 Sharpe had a permanent role as Laura Thomas in the western series Von Cowboys, Sheriffs und Banditen . There were also guest appearances in well-known series such as a thousand miles of dust , solo for ONCEL and bewitching Jeannie . In 1967 she ended her acting career, but appeared in the short film Fate's Shadow with her daughter Kat Kramer in 2019 .

Karen Sharpe was married twice. A 1957 marriage to actor Chester Marshall Jr. ended in divorce in 1961. In 1966 she married the director and film producer Stanley Kramer († 2001), with whom she has two children - including the actress Kat Kramer. Sharpe manages the director's estate, including the Stanley Kramer Library. In collaboration with the University of California, Los Angeles , she founded the Stanley Kramer Award and the Stanley Kramer Fellowship Award, both of which are given to young filmmakers.
