Kari Kjønaas Kjos (born January 25, 1962 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian politician of the right-wing Fremskrittspartiet (FrP). She has been a member of the Storting since 2005 .

Life

After finishing secondary school, Kjos initially worked as an assistant in various kindergartens. From 1984 she worked as a clerk. In 1995 she graduated from BI Norwegian Business School with a degree in business administration . She then worked as a manager until 2000, before working for the Fremskrittspartiet until 2005. From 1999 to 2011 she was a member of Lørenskog's municipal parliament .

Kjos moved into the Norwegian national parliament in Storting for the first time in the 2005 general election . There she represents the constituency of Akershus and she was initially a member of the labor and social committee. After the 2009 election , she moved to the Health and Welfare Committee, where she took over the chairmanship following the 2013 election . In the 2017–21 legislative period she was deputy chairwoman of the local and administrative committee until January 2020, after which she became a member of the justice committee. Between September 2011 and September 2013, Kjos was also part of the faction board of her party. In April 2020, she announced that she did not want to run again in the 2021 general election .
