Karin Korte (born October 22, 1960 in Nettesheim ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former member of the Berlin House of Representatives .

Life

Karin Korte graduated from the municipal high school in Dormagen in 1979. She studied social work at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Aachen . In 1984 she moved to Berlin . Since then she has worked in various public Berlin cultural institutions and district administrations .

She is married and has two grown children.

politics

In 2013, Korte joined the SPD in the Neukölln district . In the 2016 election to the Berlin House of Representatives , she won the direct mandate in the constituency of Neukölln 6 in Gropiusstadt with 32.9% of the first votes .

In the House of Representatives, she acted as integration policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group. She was a member of the committees for cultural affairs, civic engagement and participation as well as integration, labor and social affairs.

In December 2017, Korte announced her candidacy as Neukölln District Councilor for Education, Schools, Culture and Sport after the previous incumbent announced his resignation. On January 26, 2018, she was officially nominated by the Neukölln SPD. The election for city councilor in the district assembly took place on February 28th. Because of the incompatibility with the membership in the House of Representatives, Korte has resigned her parliamentary mandate. Her successor in the House of Representatives is Nicola Böcker-Giannini .
