Willi Ehrlich

Willi Ehrlich (born January 13, 1916 in Leipzig ; † October 9, 1977 ) was a German politician ( SED ) and cultural functionary. Among other things, he was Lord Mayor of Görlitz and Director of the Goethe National Museum of the National Research and Memorial Sites of Classical German Literature (now the Klassik Stiftung Weimar ).

Life

Ehrlich, son of a metalworker, learned the profession of typesetter . He joined the Socialist Workers' Youth . In 1933 he became a member of the Communist Party of Germany .

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists, Ehrlich and his brother, the architect Franz Ehrlich, participated in the illegal struggle of the KPD. In 1934 he was arrested and sentenced by the Higher Regional Court to four years in prison. In 1942 he was drafted into the 999 Penal Battalion . He became a US prisoner of war , where he remained until 1946.

In 1946 he joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and worked as a department head for economics and economic planning of the Leipzig city ​​administration , later as a department head for internal administration and as deputy mayor of Leipzig. From October 1950 to 1954 he was Lord Mayor of Görlitz. Ehrlich was relieved of this position because of "capitulant behavior on June 17, 1953 ".

He then worked as administrative director of the Dresden University of Technology . In 1958 he became first secretary of the party organization of the SED at the Technical University or Technical University of Dresden. In 1964 he came to the National Research and Memorial Centers for Classical German Literature (NFG) as part of the “Workers' Movement and Classics” project . In November 1965, he received his doctorate at the Humboldt University of Berlin about the kingdom of Trustees for efficiency or the rationalization of Trustees of the German economy to Dr. rer. oec.

In the same year he became director of the Goethe National Museum of the National Research and Memorial Sites in Weimar .
