Johannes Gobbin

Friedrich Carl Johannes Gobbin (born December 12, 1833 in Herrnhof , Oberbarnim district , Kingdom of Prussia ; † February 3, 1881 in Görlitz ) was a German administrative lawyer .

Life

Gobbin was the son of a landowner from the vicinity of Wriezen and Neutrebbin in the Oderbruch . He studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , the Universität Leipzig and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin . He became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg (1852), Misnia (1853) and Neoborussia Berlin (1853).

After the exams he was employed on May 14, 1860 as a government assessor in Ratibor . In November 1862 he was appointed mayor of Kolberg in Pomerania . In 1864 he applied for the office of Lord Mayor of Brandenburg an der Havel .

On May 14, 1871, he applied for the mayor's office of the city of Görlitz. On June 23, he was elected Lord Mayor of Görlitz due to his excellent reputation. He held this office for ten years. The city broke away from the district of Görlitz during his tenure and became an independent city . Gobbin's achievements also include the construction of the Görlitzer Stadtbrücke and the school building on Elisabethstrasse . He also campaigned for the Görlitz – Zittau railway line . As Lord Mayor , he represented his city in the Prussian mansion .

With his wife Clara geb. Gutike he had four children.

Honor

There is a Gobbinstraße in both Brandenburg an der Havel and Görlitz.
