Carl Eduard Maximilian Richtsteig

Carl Eduard Maximilian Richtsteig (born March 16, 1809 in Glogau , † May 25, 1879 in Kroppen ) was Lord Mayor of the city of Görlitz between 1866 and 1871 . Later he took over the management of the Berlin-Görlitzer- and Halle-Sorau-Guben Railway .

Life

Carl Richtsteg was born in 1809 as the son of a doctor in Glogau, Lower Silesia , and attended the municipal high school. Between 1828 and 1831 he studied law in Berlin . He then worked as an auscultator at the city courts in Glogau and Sprottau and at the higher regional courts of Glogau and Breslau . Later he was a higher regional court assessor in his hometown. From 1837 he worked as a judicial commissioner and notary in Görlitz. Between 1845 and 1860 he was a paid member of the city magistrate and city treasurer . Furthermore, he sat in the Upper Lusatian municipal parliament in 1845 and was President of the Protestant parish council. During his work in the municipal administration of the city of Görlitz, he worked out a local building police law. This was confirmed by the Liegnitz government on December 24, 1847 . In 1851 he achieved a significant expansion of the inner tax district. The tax control houses on Zittauer, Girbigsdorfer and Rothenburger Strasse, among others, are still reminiscent of the expansion.

In 1860 he was elected mayor and syndic by the city council. In 1866 he was finally appointed Lord Mayor of the city of Görlitz. Due to Richtsteig's good relationship with Bethel Henry Strousberg , Görlitz received a direct rail link to the capital Berlin . Richtsteig unexpectedly terminated his employment on July 1, 1871 and took over the management post of the Berlin-Görlitzer and Halle-Sorau-Gubener railways. As early as 1875 Richtsteig was forced to resign due to embezzlement of an employee without pension entitlement.

Richtsteig finally withdrew bitterly to his Kroppen estate near Ortrand . In 1879, due to financial difficulties, he asked the municipal magistrate of Görlitz for permission to reopen his office. But a few days later, Richtsteig died on May 25, 1879.
