Karl-Ernst Petzold

Karl-Ernst Petzold (born April 15, 1918 in Rochlitz , Saxony , † October 24, 2003 ) was a German ancient historian .

Karl-Ernst Petzold studied history, Latin, Greek and philosophy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and was already working on The Opening of the Second Roman-Macedonian War at the age of 22 . Examination of the late annalistic topic in Livius did his doctorate. His habilitation followed with a contribution on Polybios . Together with Eduard Bornemann , he published a set of Latin teaching materials that was used in particular at Hessian high schools. From 1968 Petzold taught Ancient History at the Technical University of Berlinand worked from 1970 to 1985 as professor of ancient history at the University of Tübingen .
