Wilhelm Hoffmann (historian)

Wilhelm Hoffmann (born January 25, 1909 in Leipzig , † April 16, 1969 in Tübingen ) was a German ancient historian .

Life

In 1932 he was at the University of Leipzig with a thesis on the Sibylline books doctorate . In 1940 he completed his habilitation in Leipzig with his work Livius and the Second Punic War and became a private lecturer there . In 1947 Hoffmann completed his habilitation at the University of Hamburg , where he became an adjunct professor in 1949 . In 1962 he moved to the University of Gießen as a full professor , and in 1968, a year before his death, to the University of Tübingen .

One focus of Hoffmann's academic work was the Roman Republic , especially the time of the Punic Wars.
