Helga Gesche (born July 8, 1942 in Dessau ) is a German ancient historian .

Helga Gesche received her doctorate in 1967 at the University of Frankfurt with the work The Godification of Caesars . In 1972 he also completed his habilitation there . In the same year Gesche became a professor in Frankfurt, in 1971 a member of the Commission for Ancient History and Epigraphy, and in 1978, as successor to Hans Georg Gundel , appointed the chair of ancient history at the University of Gießen . In addition, she was a corresponding member from 1973 or a full member from 1979 of the German Archaeological Institute . In 2003 Gesche took leave of absence without pay; In 2005 she retired at her own request. His successor was Hans-Ulrich Wiemer .
