Karen Piepenbrink

Karen Piepenbrink (born August 15, 1969 in Bremen ) is a German ancient historian .

Karen Piepenbrink passed her Abitur in 1989 at the old grammar school in her hometown of Bremen and then began a teaching degree in Latin and history at the University of Freiburg . In 1995 she passed the first state examination, followed by a doctoral degree from 1996 to 1999 . In 1999 she received her doctorate in Freiburg with the thesis Political Order Concepts in Attic Democracy of the Fourth Century BC. A comparative study of the philosophical and rhetorical discourse . Then Piepenbrink became a research assistant at Kai Brodersen's chair at the Department of Ancient History at the University of Mannheim .

In 2005 he completed his habilitation in Mannheim with the thesis Christian Identity and Assimilation in Late Antiquity. Problems of being a Christian in the reflection of contemporaries and the award of the Venia legendi . Thanks to a Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , she spent a year abroad at the State University of New York in Buffalo , where she taught as a Research Assistant Professor . In 2007, she was appointed temporary academic councilor in Mannheim , and a little later in the same year as an adjunct professor. In 2008/09 she taught as a representative of a university lecturer in Freiburg. From 2009 to 2011 she was a substitute professor for ancient history at the University of Mannheim.

Since October 2011 she has been a substitute for the professorship for Ancient History at the University of Giessen . At the end of 2011 she was offered a W2 professorship for ancient history at the university there . Piepenbrink has been teaching as a professor in Gießen since April 2012.

Piepenbrink is primarily concerned with the history of ancient Christianity, especially Constantine the Great and its relationship to Christianity, with the history of mentality and ideas in ancient times and ancient philosophy.
