Werner Dahlheim

Werner Dahlheim (born June 2, 1938 in Berlin ) is a German ancient historian .

Life

After graduating from the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium Trier in 1958, Dahlheim studied at the University of Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1965 with a thesis on the foreign policy of the Roman Republic under Robert Werner . He then worked as an assistant in Munich and at the Free University of Berlin , where he completed his habilitation in 1970. There he was also an academic advisor and from the summer semester 1971 to the winter semester 1971/72 professor. From 1972 until his retirement in 2006 he held a chair for ancient history at the Technical University of Berlin .

The focus of Dahlheim's academic work is Roman history , where he dealt with foreign policy and provincial administration of the republic as well as with personalities such as Caesar , Pompey and Augustus , as well as with early Christianity and the reception of antiquity. In addition, he has written fundamental overviews of Roman history and antiquity as a whole.

Dahlheim was a consultant for the ZDF film Große Völker - Die Römer (2014).
