Karl-Heinz Count of Rothenburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl-Heinz Graf von Rothenburg ( Latin Carolus Henricus Rubricastellanus ; born April 7, 1934 in Wiesbaden ; † January 17, 2019 in Aachen ) was a German classical philologist from the Silesian family of Rothenburg .

Life

After graduating from the Bismarck-Gymnasium in Karlsruhe , the great-grandson of Constantine von Hohenzollern-Hechingen wanted to study music because he played the violin with great enthusiasm and some people had advised him to study. Since he could not be supported from home, he had to say goodbye to this dream. He then studied Protestant theology at the University of Heidelberg . After the two exams he was vicar in the Baden regional church for about a year . Due to a crisis of faith, he voluntarily resigned from the church service and studied ancient languages, again at Heidelberg University. After completing his studies and legal clerkship , he worked at various grammar schools, most recently for 10 years at the upper level college in Bielefeld . His subjects were Latin, Greek and Protestant theology.

In addition, he took up a suggestion from the Bulgarian psychiatrist Georgi Losanow , whose suggestopedia allegedly made learning easier. In the 1980s he founded an association which he called ALLOS (ALLOS = alternative teaching and learning without stress). The association offered foreign language courses using the suggestopedic method. As part of the association's program, intensive courses were also held for students who wanted to obtain the Latinum or Graecum . These courses claimed to bring the participants from zero knowledge to the ability to read Cicero scripts in 5 weeks. This claim was redeemed in very many cases. Today a Bochum language institute runs these courses.
